Oral Motor Articulation Therapy

This program focuses on stimulating neuromuscular development of the lips, tongue, soft palate and facial muscles to help with speaking chewing and swallowing.

The primary goal is to promote a mature physiological base for the normal development of speech and swallowing skills. This therapy is particularly beneficial for the correction of persistent /r/, /l/, /s/, /sh/, /ch/  sound distortions. Emphasis in therapy is accomplished by:

  • Facilitating balance and appropriate muscular strength tone and endurance of the speech articulators

  • Normalizing perceptual sensitivity and proprioception

  • Differentiating oral motor abilities and stabilization skills during movement

  • Achieving fine oral motor precision and control

Oral motor articulation therapy is used either as a base proceeding or simultaneously with other more traditional speech / feeding therapy methods.
